Cedar Ridge HorsesWe LOVE our horses! Here is a little bit about each of the horses that you might meet or ride at Cedar Ridge. Will
Will is an American Quarter Horse. He is trained to ride, drive, and RACE! He is a multiple state champion in 4-H Gymkhana. That means he's really good at barrel racing, pole bending and other western games. Even though he's fast, he's gentle and good to all inexperienced riders and is a favorite lesson horse.
This amazing guy also looks pretty good in front of a carriage - don't you think? This is Carissa (Rivara) Sorenson, Ripon alum and former stable manager with her brand new husband Justin! Jazz
Jazz is probably a Standardbred. He was one of Mary's horse rescues from a few years back. He is a favorite with hunt seat riders, since he is forward and was born to TROT! Jazz is really personable and loves affection. He and Noah are learning to drive as a team. Noah
Noah was born at Cedar Ridge. He is the grandson of the Avery's first horse, Kelly, and the son of Milly who now belongs to the Betler family. Noah is a "steady Eddie" and can be a little lazy. He's a big guy, so is popular with our larger riders. Joe
Joe is Mary's favorite rescue from the many done over the years. He was first handled as a three year old, and his earlier experiences with humans were quite painful. It took a lot of time an patience to earn Joe's trust, but he has repaid us with a big "try." He has wonderful gaits and is a favorite on the trail. He is also learning gymkhana. Drifter
Drifter's rescue story is an interesting one. He was the offspring of a "Premarin" mare. Premarin, manufactured from pregnant mare urine, is a drug used for treatment of the symptoms of menopause. The surplus foals often came to an unfortunate end, but Drifter was one of the lucky ones. Drifter is a Palomino Quarter Horse. He is very brave on the trail. LightningLightning is an adorable pony that was a Christmas present for the young Ashley Ott. Look what's happened to poor Lightning!
Arabella
Arabella is one of the newer members of the Cedar Ridge string. She is a Paint, and Ashley Ott is hoping she'll be the next great speed horse. Arabella really likes a hug before she goes out in the morning. Sean
Sean was another Avery rescue that became Ashley's horse several years ago. Sean is also a favorite hunt seat horse for the Ripon College Equestrain Team. He is also learning to jump! Sean is a Quarter Horse who has a coat like a copper penny. Hence his name: Sean Patrick. Lucky
Lucky is the newest member of the Cedar Ridge string. He loves the trails, and is good for beginner riders. Lucky is also used in horse therapy. |
